Financial Requests To Huron County Council Increase

Huron County council is considering changing its policy on grant requests.

CAO Brenda Orchard explains as higher levels of government continue to back off on their funding, the counties and municipalities are struggling to deal with the increase in requests for money.

The Finance Committee that recently reviewed how the county does business suggested it might be better to deal with all of the requests during budget deliberations, rather than deal with each request on an ad hoc basis as it's presented to county council.

Brenda Orchard says if the requests are all considered at the same time, it gives councillors an opportunity to compare them against each other and determine if each request is for something that should be paid for by taxpayers.

That discussion will take place as part of the 2017 budget process, which will start next month.
