Wingham Regional Silverstick Well Underway

The annual Wingham Regional Silver Stick is underway, and will be running until Sunday at North Huron Westcast Community Complex.

Despite a slight drop in teams participating in midget and atom, tournament co-director Jason Goodall says this year’s Silver Stick has been great since starting on Monday.

“We’ve had a really good tournament this year so far. We are down a couple teams, but the teams that are here are trying their hardest and the games have been really competitive. It’s been fun hockey to watch.”

The tournament got underway on Monday, and Goodall says while the tournament is still a big success, there are challenges in putting the event together.

“The difficulties we have, I mean the centres near us are amalgamating, because their numbers are down through registration, so that is our biggest challenge. But keeping kids involved in hockey is what we’re trying to do with the Silverstick Tournament.”

Goodall also notes the profit made from the tournament all goes back to help support local minor hockey.
