AMDSB Enrollment Numbers Looking Positive

Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board got some good news at this week's board meeting.

Treasurer Cheri Carter informed them that enrollment at the elementary and secondary level has exceeded estimates for the current school year.

Carter said the October 31 report on student enrollment is one of two for the school year. The second is done in March.

The report shows combined elementary and secondary enrollment exceeding estimates by 232 students, but she added that the big news is that elementary enrollment is actually up over last year's enrollment.     She says that's the first time she's seen that in 15 years with the board.

Carter says the secondary enrollment was still down from previous years but was higher than estimated, so the decrease wasn't as deep as they thought it would be.   She adds the secondary enrollment for the calculation of this report doesn't include the international student enrollment which amounts to an added daily enrollment of about 33 students.

Carter adds the kindergarten enrollment is up by about 95 students over estimates and that's very encouraging.   She says they have to work harder at getting parents to register their preschool students so their estimates will be more accurate.
