Meritorious Service Award For Stratford Woman

A Stratford woman is among 45 people being presented with Meritorious Service Decorations by the Governor General David Johnson on Friday.

Former CBC announcer Judy Madden organized charity readings of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol across Canada to ensure others had the chance to experience the joy of the Christmas classic.

Over the past 25 years, the readings have brought happiness to residents across the country, and raised funds for community organizations like hospitals, shelters and food banks.

The Meritorious Service Decorations were established to recognize the extraordinary people who make Canada proud. Their acts are often innovative, set an example or model for others to follow, or respond to a particular challenge faced by a community.
