Driver Tasered Following Chatsworth Crash

Charges have been laid after police were forced to Taser the driver of a vehicle that was involved in a rollover crash in Chatsworth.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Wednesday around 9:13am, officers responded to the crash and saw the driver of a 2009 Dodge Caravan walking away from the scene on Hwy. 6 and 10.  The crash occurred just a few hundred metres south of the Chatsworth OPP Detachment.

Police arrested the driver, who was not injured but was found to be disqualified from driving. He was taken to the OPP detachment where police allege that he became "extremely agitated and combative with officers." Officers were forced use a Taser to subdue him.

The man allegedly continued to be combative when he was taken to hospital by ambulance for assessment, and one officer suffered an injury to his hand, which had to be treated at the hospital.

A 31-year-old man from Saugeen First Nations is now charged with driving while disqualified, resisting a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle and four counts of driving under suspension.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
