Petition Asks For Audit Of Saugeen First Nation Departments

Several members of Saugeen First Nation have asked for a forensic audit of departments within the First Nation.

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Larry Miller presented a petition in the House of Commons on behalf of a small group of residents of Saugeen First Nation #29.

The petition calls on the minister of indigenous and northern affairs to instruct her department to conduct an audit.

The petition was signed by residents who believe there are some discrepancies in the finances of the Saugeen First Nation reserve.

A forensic audit would evaluate financial information, including lease rents from band leased lands, service fees, casino revenue, housing, and other finances.

In his presentation in the Commons, Miller stated, "The Government has promised openness and transparency for all Canadians, and that includes indigenous peoples. I urge the minister to listen to the concerns of the residents of Saugeen First Nation #29, and instruct her department to conduct a forensic audit of the Saugeen First Nation."
