Stratford General Unveils Expanded Integrated Stroke Unit

Stratford General Hospital unveiled its expanded Integrated Stroke Unit Thursday.

The expansion has provided five additional beds, and the unit will now handle all stroke patients in Huron and Perth counties.

District Stroke Manager Bonnie Thompson says it's amazing that the unit can now handle more than ever.

"It makes me feel very proud and happy for the team that they're able to set up an Integrated Stroke Unit in this manner where every patient will be able to be cared for from start to finish in their stroke journey," she says.

Thompson says it is a huge benefit to take the stroke patients from step one right to the end of their rehab, with an onsite rehab and gym centre on the same floor as the expanded Integrated Stroke Unit. She also says having Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece, and many other dignitaries in attendance, means a lot.

"I think to me and the whole team it means they're invested and that's really important to us," says Thompson. "It's really important the people of Huron-Perth know that their needs are valued and that we respect where they come from whether they're rural or urban."

Thompson says the level of comfort and care that stroke patients now have knowing all their care will be in one location is huge for Stratford General.
