Bruce Grey MPP Calls For Improved Mental Health Funding

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says the lack of psychiatrists , mental health beds, and resources is taking a toll on local hospital emergency departments. Bill Walker is calling on the province to provide adequate mental health funding after reports children and youth with mental illness wait months for help. Walker was responding to the Auditor General report on the growing gap between the needs of young people with mental illness, and the care and services available. He says local emergency rooms are increasingly dealing with suicidal youth, and people suffering from schizophrenia., He says, “Instead of matching patients with beds, hospital staff are now calling in police officers to guard patients as beds remain scarce.”
