A teenage girl is dead and a man is in hospital following a two-vehicle crash involving an armoured truck on Hwy. 4 near Vanastra.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Tuesday at around 4:35pm, a Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on Hwy. 4 (London Rd.) attempted to maneuver around stopped vehicles at 7th Ave., by passing on the gravel shoulder. However, the driver lost control and the vehicle re-entered the roadway where it was struck on the passenger side by an armoured truck.

The only passenger in the Malibu, 17-year-old Bethany Blanchard of Clinton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Malibu, 19-year-old Nicholas Dimmers of Clinton, has been taken to a hospital in London to be treated for life threatening injures.

Police closed Hwy. 4 between Dinsley Terrace and Vanastra Rd. for several hours while officers conducted an investigation. The road was reopened around 11:30pm.
