Goderich council has approved the necessary official plan and zoning bylaw amendments to allow the construction of a four-storey hotel on the site of the former Victoria Public School.
Hugh Handy is a land-use plan representing the developer. He told council Monday night the hotel will have 60 units, two conference rooms, a pool and a number of other amenities.
The application still has to go to Huron County council, and the site plan still has to be approved.
If all goes well, Handy says they hope to start construction in the spring for what be a new Comfort Inn.
They would like to be ready to open to guests in 2018.
