Meaford Forced To Advertise For Library Board Positions

Meaford Council is still running into problems over the lack of a contract between the municipality and the Owen Sound North Grey Union Public Library.

After library board Chair Peter Bantock and the other three board members voted against a new contract and then resigned, Meaford Council appointed four new members to the library board.

But Mayor Barbara Clumpus and council have been informed they contravened the Public Libraries Act by appointing new board members instead of advertising for them.

Clumpus says council was only trying to reach out to residents who had previously expressed interest in serving on the library board.

Council has directed municipal staff to post a notice in the local newspaper, calling for volunteers to fill the four vacancies on the library board for Meaford.
