Warming Up An Unlocked Vehicle An Easy Target For Thieves

The OPP are issuing a warning about leaving a vehicle unattended while it's warming up -- it makes an easy target for thieves.

Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Thursday afternoon on Hwy. 23 in West Perth, at the edge of Mitchell. Witnesses reported that the female driver fled into a field.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and a K9 team searched the area, but did not locate the driver.

It was later determined that the SUV had been stolen after the owner left it running and unoccupied.

Police are urging owners to lock their vehicles when leaving them unattended, and if you choose to leave it running to warm up, use a second key to lock and unlock it.
