Goderich Moves To Phone And Electronic Voting

Include Goderich in the list of Huron County municipalities that are going to phone and electronic voting for next year's municipal election.

Clerk Dwayne Evans says kiosks would be set up around the town to help those that don't have access to a phone or internet.  Staff would be available to guide people through whichever process they choose to use.

Staff also looked at going from the current first past the post system to a ranked ballot.

However, Evans says he's not aware of any other municipality in Ontario that is considering the ranked ballot system and he doesn't believe Goderich wants to be the first to try it.

Evans point out that going to an electronic system opens the doors for other systems in the future, so it's something the municipality would be doing at some point, and now seems like the right time.
