Wellington North Close To Finalizing 2017 Budget

Wellington North council spent over three hours Monday chopping about $1-million off its capital budget. That brought the local levy down to council’s goal of about $7.5-million.

If approved in February, the budget will mean about $19 extra in property taxes, or 1.3% for municipal purposes on a home worth about $237,000. The increase is higher for farm properties with large assessments.

More than $1-million in reserves was poured into the budget to keep the tax increase down. Wellington North has a healthy $17-million in its reserve account.

Council will present the budget to the public at a special meeting February 13, and then go for final approval February 27.
