JMR Electric Employees Vote To Accept New Contract

The 350 employees of Exeter-based JMR Electric Ltd. have voted in favour of a new contract.

The three-year agreement negotiated by their elected bargaining committee was approved by a two-thirds majority.

The employees are members of Construction Workers Union, CLAC Local 53.  JMR Electric operates both electrical and mechanical divisions, completing large infrastructure projects throughout Ontario.

The contract includes wage increases, adjustments to compensation for vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, paid bereavement leave, vacation time, subsistence allowance, and tool and boot allowances.

The total package increase for most employees is as high as $4.38 per hour over the three-year term.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
