Youth Cautioned After Goderich School Hit By BB Gun Pellet

Police have issued a warning to a youth after a BB gun pellet struck a classroom window at Goderich District Collegiate Institute.

Around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon, officers responded after a projectile damaged an exterior classroom window on the northeast side of the Goderich school.   The school was evacuated by police.

The property was deemed safe by police just after 4pm, and all students and staff were dismissed. Goderich Public School and St. Mary’s Catholic School, also experienced delayed dismissals due to the incident.

Police were able to determine that the pellet was fired from a nearby residence where two youths had been in the backyard shooting airsoft pellets from a BB gun.   Police say the pellet was fired accidentally and there was no intention to shoot at the building.

Police have since warned the youths and spoke to them about firearms safety.

Discharging a firearm, air gun or spring gun in the Town of Goderich can carry a $125 set fine.
