Carbon Footprint Initiative Seeks More Members In Perth-Huron

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority has partnered with five companies and one municipality to form a Carbon Footprint Initiative.

The Leadership Team includes Ideal Supply, Molesworth Farm Supply, Trillium Mutual Insurance, Pioneer in Wingham, Keeso Lumber from Listowel, and the Municipality of North Perth.

MVCA General Manager Phil Beard says the program is designed to help them reduce the use of fossil fuels and then plant trees to compensate for the fossil fuels they are using.

Beard uses the example of Richard Keeso of Keeso Lumber who uses a wood burning furnace that heats his entire building using scraps from his lumber operation.  That has allowed him to completely eliminate the need for natural gas.

Other companies are monitoring how their vehicles are being driven to see if they can improve efficiency.

The Carbon Footprint Leadership Team is hoping to attract other companies and municipalities to join them this year.
