Doctor Opens New Family Practice In Southampton Next Month

Another doctor is on the way to Saugeen Shores.

Council has signed a ten-year agreement with Dr. Daniel Gusberti, who will be opening a family practice in Southampton next month.

Mayor Mike Smith says the medical clinic in Southampton is now full and there's only one space left in the Dr. Earl Health Centre in Port Elgin, which they are actively trying to fill.

Smith says it's evidence of the success of their physician recruiting efforts with Bruce Power and Kincardine.

"We've put a pile of effort into it, and with the partnership that we have with Kincardine and Bruce Power, put a lot of effort into recruiting doctors," says Smith. "We finished the Earl clinic and put some big investments in the Earl clinic, but it's paid off."

Smith says there's now only about 300 people without a family doctor in Saugeen Shores, pointing out the orphan patient list was almost 4,000 people only a few years ago.
