Report Requested On Inclusion Of Special Needs Students

Trustees with the Avon Maitland District School Board have asked for a report from its Special Education Advisory Committee following a parent's presentation in January.

Director of Education Ted Doherty says the parents have asked for a review of the effectiveness of their work on inclusion in the classroom for students with special needs.

Doherty says at Tuesday night's committee of the whole meeting, trustees referred the request to their SEAC committee.

Doherty says the SEAC committee meets once a month and trustees have asked them to do a progress report following their April meeting, so sometime in April a report should be available to the board.

Doherty says self-contained classes are still available to students with special needs but they no longer have self-contained classes at the elementary level.
