Goderich Council Asked To Consider Rainbow Crosswalk

Goderich council has deferred a decision on allowing a rainbow crosswalk on The Square until its March 20 meeting.

Resident Fadi Didi made a presentation to council Tuesday night on behalf of Huron County Pride.

Didi pointed out that rainbow crosswalks are usually found in larger urban centres, but would demonstrate that the Town of Goderich is a welcoming and inclusive community.

Huron Pride would like to paint a crosswalk at the top of West St. and the Square and they've been advised it would cost about $5,000.  They have already raised over $1,500, and they've partnered with the Bank of Montreal on some upcoming events.

If the project got the support of council, Didi says they would like to have the crosswalk painted by summer.
