Minto Increases Building Fees

Minto has approved a new set of building permit fees which will generate an extra $50,000 for the municipality, or about 1% on the tax levy.

The building department is supposed to operate on a cost recovery basis, but last year its budget was subsidized for about $100,000 by local ratepayers.

Chief Building Official Terry Kuipers told council that thousands of new regulations have been imposed by the province since Minto’s building permit fees were last reviewed in 2010.

In future, he says he would like to see reviews done more frequently to avoid large fee increases.
