Goderich To Get New Affordable Housing Units

Huron County council has approved Goderich as the location for the proposed construction of rental units under the Investment in Affordable Housing Program.

County Manager of Housing and Property Services Barbara Hall says the county has a long waiting list for affordable rental units, and the greatest demand is for one-bedroom units that offer below market value rent.

Goderich is the most requested location.

Hall says a request for proposals will likely go out later this year to build up to eight one-bedroom units. Construction would likely start around March of next year and the date of occupancy would depend on the final number of units built.

Hall says they have hundreds of people on their waiting list for affordable rental units. They check that list every year to see if people are still waiting, or have moved on, and to make sure their contact information is up to date in case a unit becomes available.
