Central Huron Council Sticks With Ward System

Central Huron councillors voted 6-1 Monday night against a motion to do away with the ward system and go to an at-large voting system.

Goderich Township resident Dave Hemmingway was part of a delegation that spoke against the motion, pointing out that in an online survey, the vote against the motion was a 3-1 ratio.

Most of the councillors stated they didn't have a strong feeling one way or the other on the issue, but voted against it because that seemed to be how the majority of residents felt.

Hemmingway commented afterwards that he would not have a problem with a referendum, provided it was done fairly, but added he was happy with the outcome of the council vote.
