Hospitals within the Southwest LHIN have started to work together to reduce wait times for surgeries such as hip and knee replacements.
Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance CEO Andrew Williams says wait times vary widely from one hospital to another, so they are working together to create a central registry. The registry will give patients the option of going to a hospital within the LHIN that has the shortest wait time.
Williams says wait times at Alliance hospitals are better than provincial targets and in some cases.
One example is MRIs where the wait time is about 30 days at Stratford General as opposed to 106 days at London Health Sciences Centre.
