Owen Sound Police Nab Suspected Coin Machine Thief

An Owen Sound man appears in court Wednesday for a bail hearing, facing multiple counts of theft.

Police began investigating the man after he was identified as a suspect in the theft of money from numerous coin operated laundry machines.  A man would enter insecure laundry rooms at several Owen Sound apartment complexes and use various tools to gain access to the money storage compartment of the machines and then steal the coins.

Officers with the Owen Sound Police Service executed a search warrant Tuesday at a downtown apartment.

They seized a small quantity of the stolen money in addition to tools used to break into the machines.

A 28-year-old Owen Sound man has been charged with three counts of theft under $5,000, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of possession of a coin-operated device breaking instrument, and one count of possession of marijuana.
