Markdale's Grey Gables Future Considered This Week

Grey County's director of long term care is recommending a new long term care facility be built in Durham.

In a report to go before Grey County Council this Thursday, Lynne Johnson recommends the amalgamation of Grey Gables in Markdale and Rockwood Terrace in Durham into the single new facility in Durham.   It would be operational by 2025.

Grey Gables would be put up for sale as a retirement/assisted living facility.

Asked about the recommendation, Grey Warden Al Barfoot declined to comment until County Council has a chance to debate the issue.

Johnson had been directed by council last July to develop a report on the future of long term care in the county after a consultant's report recommended closing Rockwood Terrace in Durham.
