Old Landfill Sites In Bayfield A Concern

The discovery of three landfill sites that were closed in the 50s, 60s and 70s has some Bayfield residents concerned.

Bayfield ward councillor Bill Whetstone explains there are questions about whether the landfill sites were decommissioned properly.

Council has set aside $40,000 to test the land within 500 m of the area east of Hwy. 21.

Whetstone says he doubts anything will be found, but the damage to property values in the village could be a factor with people from outside of the village.

About 40 Bayfield-area residents attended a recent public meeting and the landfill sites were at the top of their list of concerns.
