Alert Patron Helps Stop Senior From Being Defrauded

Sometimes it pays to evesdrop on coffee-shop conversations.

The OPP in Wellington County were contacted this week by a woman who overheard a senior citizen in a coffee shop talking on a phone about having his computer fixed.

The man had his laptop with him and seemed to be having trouble with it.  He made comments on the phone about paying to have his computer fixed.

Police were able to locate the man at his home in Centre Wellington Township, and discovered he was in the process of paying money to have his computer "fixed" by someone claiming to be from Microsoft.

It was quickly established that the person on the phone was not from Microsoft and OPP assisted in ending the communication.
