Meaford Sends Resolution To Grey Bruce Health Services Board

Meaford council is challenging the board of Grey-Bruce Health Services Board to re-examine its proposal to transfer all elective day surgeries from several smaller hospitals to Owen Sound.

Mayor Barbara Clumpus says municipal staff mailed a copy of the resolution her council passed last week to the Health Services Board.  The resolution calls for GBHS to consolidate all elective surgeries to Meaford.

As for endoscopies, the hospitals in Meaford and Southampton could share this service on an "alternating- weeks" schedule.

Meaford council wants the health services board to delay any decision on the matter until it has discussed the matter with key community partners.

Clumpus fears the board’s recommendation, if approved, would hurt Meaford’s ability to attract new doctors, and also new residents and businesses.
