Budget Set In Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh

The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh approved its budget for the year this week.

Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek says the increase in the levy is 6% and the majority of that increase was in OPP policing costs.

Van Diepenbeek says policing costs rose by $180,000 last year and that represents about 5% of their budget.

He adds policing cost went from $340,000 to $920,000 over the last four to five years put they've told they're at the high end now.

But he adds most rural municipalities are feeling the same pressure.

Van Diepenbeek says the rest of the increase is just the result of maintaining normal services as well as some of the paving work they're doing in the township this year.
