Woman Charged With Auto Theft, Intoxication

An Owen Sound woman is facing numerous charges following an alleged assault and vehicle theft.

Owen Sound Police say the incident occurred shortly after noon on Saturday.  A 23-year-old woman, reportedly assaulted two family members, then stole a 2014 Dodge Journey.  The woman was drunk according to police.

An OPP patrol cruiser located the woman in the Sauble Beach area a short time later with the Dodge.  She was taken into custody and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and drive over 80.

Once returned to Owen Sound, the woman was additionally charged with theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of assault and driving a motor vehicle without a licence.

In a press release, Owen Sound police Sgt. Tom Sullivan calls it "extremely fortunate" that no one was injured in the incident.  The family members involved in the assault were not hurt.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was released by the court on a recognizance of bail, police say.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
