Major Sewer And Water Upgrade For Vanastra

A $2-million water and sewer upgrade in Vanastra is set to get underway this spring.

Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellan says much of the original infrastructure was put in many years ago when the military base was first built, and the original techniques and materials used at that time don't meet today's standards.

MacLellan says the deterioration of the system as created some infiltration issues which add to the cost of running the system.

This is the second grant they've received and MacLellan says it will go a long way towards addressing the problems.

It's a joint federal and provincial project, and MacLellan says Huron-Bruce MP Ben Lobb played a large role in recognizing the need for the funding and moving the process along.

It will take most of the summer to complete the Vanastra project.
