McNiven Named OHL Goaltender of the Year

Owen Sound Attack netminder Michael McNiven is the OHL's Goaltender of the Year.

The Montreal Canadiens prospect was 41-9-2-2 in 54 games this season including six shut out victories. He had the lowest goals-against-average of 2.30 and a save percentage of .915.

He also surpassed Jordan Binnington's single season record of 32 wins during the 2012-13 season.

In a posting on the team's website, McNiven is quoted as saying: "This is a huge honour. At the beginning of the year I made it my goal to be the best goalie I could be on a night in, night out basis and to be named Goaltender of the Year in a league with so many fantastic goalies means a lot to me."

McNiven went on to say he felt it was a team award.

"I wouldn't have been able to make the saves I did if it wasn't for my teammates who blocked shots, cleared players form the front of the net and made my job easier."

The award will be presented at the OHL Awards Ceremony, June 8th at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
