Organ Donor Challenge Involves Huron Perth Healthcare

The Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance fell just a little short in its contest with Woodstock General Hospital to see who could mark "Be a Donor Month" in April by registering the most organ donors.

HPHA CEO Andrew Williams says there were really no losers, because between them, they registered almost 400 new donors. The exact numbers were 179 for the Healthcare Alliance, and 189 for Woodstock General.

Part of the agreement was the team with the fewer registered donor would wear the Cardiac Carl costume at the Service Ontario office in Stratford Wednesday, which Williams did.

He adds roughly 15% of the population believe they are registered as donors, when in fact they are not.

Anyone wishing to become a donor or confirm they already are can go to the www.beadonor.ca/hpha web site.
