Fergus Woman Victim Of CRA Phone Fraud

The OPP in Wellington County are reporting another case of the Canada Revenue Agency scam.

Police say a 37-year-old woman from Fergus was contacted by someone claiming to be from Canada Revenue Agency, requesting payment of back taxes with gift cards.

The victim purchased $4,715 worth of cards and provided the activation codes along with her social insurance number.

Once again, the OPP remind you to never provide personal information on inbound phone calls; always ask who is calling; document the information; and do your homework.

Police also stress the Canada Revenue Agency would never request payment by money service business or iTunes gift cards.
