Community Rally Friday At Grey Gables In Markdale

The Grey Gables long-term care facility in Markdale will be the scene of another community rally.

Local residents are being encouraged to join staff and community members for the gathering at 2pm Friday afternoon, outside the Grey Gables home.

They are trying to send a message to Grey County councillors that they don't want to lose Grey Gables.

County councillors are scheduled to vote next Thursday on a recommendation that Grey Gables and Rockwood Terrace in Durham be amalgamated into a new long-term care facility in Durham.   Grey Gables would be sold as a for-profit retirement residence.

Friday's rally is being supported by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union.  The OPSEU local is concerned about the future for the 90 full and part-time Grey Gables employees.
