Huron Bruce MPP Rejects Liberal Budget

Huron Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says she voted against the Liberal Government budget because she has no confidence whatsoever in their fiscal policy.

Thompson says the Liberals have more than doubled the provincial debt since taking office in 2003, and will add $173.2-billion in 14 years. She says the province is also hiding a $5-billion operating deficit with the one-time sale of assets like Hydro One.

Thompson says it is shameful to see the budget approved after less than three weeks of scrutiny.  The budget, which was tabled on April 27, had only had four hours of public consultation, and one hour of committee review.

"It's shameful that the Liberals would ram this legislation through without a more open conversation. On a $141-billion budget, this accelerated timeline is an insult to the public, and the democratic process," says Thompson. "We need a government that is more concerned about representing the people who elected them, than their own interests."
