Burglar Jumps Off Roof After Owen Sound Residents Return Home

Police have made an arrest after a burglar jumped off the roof of a two storey home to avoid being caught.

The Owen Sound Police Service says on Thursday around 4pm, a man illegally entered an unlocked residence on 10th St. E near 2nd Ave. E.  Once inside, he went to second level of home and grabbed a laptop computer.  It when then that the homeowners returned.

The burglar climbed to the roof and jumped down to the ground, hurting his ankle in the fall.

After searching the area, police were able to locate a suspect and place him under arrest. The computer was also recovered.  The suspect was treated in hospital and remains in police custody.

A 34-year-old Barrie man has been charged with three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, failing to comply with recognizance, break and enter, theft, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
