Labour Leaders React To Grey Long-Term Care Decision

Local labour representatives say the east side of Grey County is being abandoned, as Grey County Council hollows out necessary public services.

The Committee of the Whole has voted to close Grey Gables in Markdale, and amalgamate into a new facility to be built in Durham. Grey County would like to see Grey Gables sold as a private retirement home.

Labour Council President Kevin Smith says public services are being sacrificed for costlier and inferior private for profit long term care homes.

Grey Bruce Labour Council Vice President Dave Trumble says the county's decision to privatize public services is out of step with the realities of the the communities they claim to serve.

The labour council says politicians should be held accountable for actions that do not recognize the need for public services.
