The local unemployment rate continues to inch downward.
In the June unemployment report for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula economic region, released Friday by the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, the jobless rate was at 3.5%, a one-percentage point drop. This continues a trend that began this past March.
The board says the drop in the jobless rate is attributed to roughly 1,400 fewer people looking for work in the region.
The net gain in jobs for the area was 100, mostly in part-time positions.
In goods-producing sectors there was an increase in 1,100 jobs. The greatest gains were in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors, and fewer jobs in utilities and construction.
In service-producing sectors there was a decline in 1,000 jobs. The biggest drops were in finance and insurance, transportation and warehousing, hospitality, and public administration. There were, however, gains in business, building and other support services, as well as educational services.
Unemployment figures in the Stratford-Bruce economic area represent a three-month moving average, unadjusted for seasonality.
In Ontario as a whole, the unemployment rate fall 0.2% to 6.2% for June.
