Provincial police have laid charges against three men who spent part of Canada Day drinking and setting off fireworks from the top of a water tower in Hensall.
Huron OPP and fire crews were called to the 200 ft high water tower after a resident heard laughter and fireworks coming from the structure around 10:30pm on July 1.
The men, all in their 20s, managed to get over the fenced in base of the water tower and climbed to the observation deck, where they drank alcohol and let off fireworks, according to police.
Police say the men told officers they were trying to catch a glimpse of the fireworks display in Grand Bend.
Two of the men climbed down the ladder of the tower, despite being told not to do so by police. The third man was lowered to the ground safely by firefighters.
“This was an incredibly dangerous stunt, had they fallen it would have been certainly fatal,” said Constable Ed Barty, in a written statement issued Thursday.
Two men from Huron County and a man from Perth County are charged with trespassing. They will appear in court to answer to the charge on September 19.
