A man is in hospital following what police call a vicious assault.

Owen Sound Police say officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls Sunday night from an address on the west side, on the report of a fight in progress.   A man was found on the ground bleeding from his face and head.

The alleged attacker was taken into custody from the scene without incident, while the victim was transported to Grey Bruce Health Services for treatment.   He is still in hospital. The victim's name has not been released.

Police were told that the attacker and the suspect knew each other and that an argument began after both had been drinking.

The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Francis Troy Thomas of Owen Sound.    He has been charged with aggravated assault, failure to comply with probation and possession of a Schedule II substance.
