UPDATE: Meaford Standoff Ends Peacefully

An overnight incident in Meaford ended peacefully early Thursday morning.

An entire neighbourhood in Meaford had been blocked off Wednesday evening because of a barricaded person in a house on Pearson St.

The OPP West Region Crisis Negotiation Team was on the scene, along with members of the Emergency Response Team and the Tactics and Rescue Units.

Around 4:45am Thursday morning, four people inside the residence surrendered to police without incident. Three of the four were released unconditionally.

The fourth person, a 31-year-old Meaford man, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

He is charged with assault with a weapon, spousal assault, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats, forcible confinement, and mischief under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing later on Thursday.

Pearson St., Trowbridge St.and Berry St. in Meaford have been reopened.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
