UPDATE: Body Of Missing Boater Found In Meaford Harbour

Police have been recovered the body of a boater that was reported missing in the Meaford Harbour.

Witnesses told the OPP that a man was seen floating in a 7 ft white dinghy in the Meaford Harbour Thursday evening. At around 9:30pm, witnesses heard a splash in the water.  The dinghy was found overturned and there was no sign of the man.

Following a search, members of the Grey County OPP Marine Unit and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit recovered the man's body just before 12:22pm Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Gary David Robertson, 26, of New Lowell, Ontario.

His body was located about 30 ft from the dinghy in the Meaford Harbour near Bayfield St.

The coroner attended the scene and a post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Saturday, August 12 in Owen Sound.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
