Mitchell Man Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash

Perth County OPP blames excessive speed for a single-vehicle crash on Line 10 of Blanshard Township late Wednesday night.

Police say a driver was heading west when the vehicle veered off the roadway into a 20 ft ditch, hitting several trees, and landing on its roof.

Andre Neshaw, 42, of Mitchell succumbed to his injuries.

The OPP says the vehicle was going more than double the posted speed limit, and alcohol is also suspected as a factor in the crash.

In the past five days, the West Region OPP investigated three fatal crashes that took four lives. police say alcohol, speed, and not wearing a seatbelt were all factors.

The OPP says 50% of all fatal collisions this year in West Region involved single motor vehicles. Speed, alcohol, and failure to wear seat belts have been identified as causal factors in each case investigated thus far.

"Preventable collisions don't have to happen. These are not 'accidents' they are preventable and tragic incidents in which people die unnecessarily," says OPP Traffic and Marine Inspector Lisa Anderson.
