Train, Truck Crash East Of Mitchell

A crash involving a transport truck and a train near Mitchell has forced two locomotives off the track.

It happened east of the West Perth town around 8:50am Monday.

The OPP says a southbound tractor trailer failed to yield for a westbound train in the area of Perth Rd. 155 between Hwy. 8 and Perth Line 32 on the Goderich Exeter Railway.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries. There were no injuries reported by railway crews, but there is property damage.

The train was hauling eight cars loaded with grain and there were two locomotives at the front.

Both locomotives went off the track and the tracks themselves were damaged.

The Goderich Exeter Railway is shut down until the cleanup and repairs are done, which may take up to three days.
