New Hotel Project In Goderich Ready To Go

A ground-breaking ceremony for the new hotel in Goderich was held Tuesday on the site of the former Victoria Street Public School.

The 65-room hotel will be part of the Comfort Inn chain but will be named Victoria Place in recognition of the school that sat on the site for over 100 years.

Mayor Keven Morrison points out that some of construction crew that will build the new hotel actually attended the school at one point.

Construction will start immediately with a goal of having the hotel ready for guests by late spring or early summer.   The hotel it will create about twenty permanent jobs once it's completed.

"That certainly gives recognition to the institution of education that sat here for over 100 years so I think that's wonderful," says Morrison. "And to see those involved with the building of the new hotel that actually attended Victoria Street Public School too, it's a great thing."
