AMDSB Increases International Student Numbers

The number of students studying in the Avon Maitland District School Board has gone up again this year.

Superintendent of Education Jody Baker says they've had about 245 students come through the Avon Maitland Board this year, but they have a partnership with the Bluewater Board and they've sent 29 students there rather than over-tax their homestay families or their schools.

Baker says they have students from Vietnam, Italy, China, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Korea, the Netherlands and Japan. She adds they've had students from all of those countries before which says something about the hospitality shown to the students by the host families.

Baker says there's no way the international Student System could work without the support of the host families and the International Students provide a welcome diversity in their schools and communities.
