Lake Huron Action Plan Discussed At Municipal Forum

The Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation hosted its second annual Municipal Forum Thursday in Goderich.

Coastal Stewardship Co-ordinator Hannah Cann explains the Centre's Action Plan crosses municipal boundaries from Sarnia to Tobermory so they need input from everyone along the shoreline.

She points out the goal of the action plan is to help all of the communities contribute to a more sustainable and resilient shoreline. She also points out that many of the steps they recommends are very cost-effective and only a matter of tweaking a few habits.

Cann suggests recent extreme weather events are encouraging shoreline residents to look for ways to protect what they have.

"Some of the goals include identifying where there are key bio-diversity features, which could include habitat, species at risk or rare areas and looked at the stressers or threats that affect these areas and how those overlap and to identify priority areas for conservation, preservation or even development," she says. "Ultimately this document and this Action Plan is meant to help serve the community in managing a more sustainable and resilient shoreline."

The municipal forum was sponsored by Bruce Power.
