Michael Schmidt Sentenced To 60 Days In Jail

Michael Schmidt has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

The raw milk producer was handed the sentence on Wednesday for his role in a confrontation that occurred at his farm two years ago.

Last month, Schmidt was found guilty of obstructing a peace officer on October 2 of 2015. The officers were there investigating the raw milk operation, and had a valid search warrant.

Judge R. Menard said he considered Schmidt's interference with the officer a serious matter, and that a jail term would serve notice to Schmidt and the general public that they must abide by the rule of law.

Schmidt is being allowed to serve his sentence on weekends. He was taken into custody this afternoon for processing.
